CLEVELAND, Ohio – Popular exhibitions and a near tidal wave of first-time visitors helped the Cleveland Museum of Art achieve record attendance of 769,435 in 2018, a 31 percent jump over 586,672 visitors in 2017.

The attendance figure, announced today by the museum, outstripped the previous record of 719,620 set in 1987, when former director Evan H. Turner oversaw special exhibitions designed to push the institution’s capacity to higher limits.
