FRONT Regional Artist Spotlight: Seuil Chung / 정서일

Jan. 25, 2023

Seuil Chung / 정서일 is an artist and lecturer based in Akron, Ohio, whose ceramic work was featured at Akron Art Museum as part of FRONT's second edition Triennial, Oh, Gods of Dust and Rainbows. His practice focuses on ceramic sculptures, along with performance, video, and photography art. Chung’s sculptures create images of the abstracted body and blur the line between the representation of the body and ceramics as a visual material to explore the subconscious mind. Chung currently teaches ceramics at the University of Akron. He received his BFA in Studio Art from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2019 and his MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art. In August 2022, his solo exhibition Mouse Hunt was held at KINK Contemporary Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio. Follow Seuil on Instagram.

"As an early career artist, participating in FRONT International 2022 was a huge stepping stone for me to open doors for other opportunities. I was able to effectively expose my work to the local community and connect with curators, artists, and art collectors in such a short yet compact period. Moreover, getting to see all the incredible work created by artists from around the world in such proximity was a wonderful experience. I am thrilled to see what FRONT brings in the next upcoming Triennial in 2025."
