November Newsletter

Nov. 05, 2020

Dear friends and colleagues,

This month, with everything in the air, we’re thinking about both pasts and futures.

You can register now for our next online gathering on Sunday, November 29. It will be a special episode of Present!, a “social dreaming matrix” led by L.A.-based psychologist and psychoanalyst George Bermudez together with artist Connie Samaras. This two-hour participatory workshop focuses on the “social unconscious” and the collective sharing of dreams. Using a methodology developed over several decades, Bermudez will host this workshop as a way to associate with, reflect upon, and consider together what our dreams can tell us about the state of society today. The event is free and open to all with prior registration; additional information will be emailed to all participants in advance.

Social dreaming workshop co-hosted by George Bermudez and Connie Samaras at SEED Lab, Anchorage Museum, Alaska, 2019.

Here in Cleveland, two of our partner institutions, moCa Cleveland and Transformer Station, have joined together to present artist Nina Katchadourian’s Monument to the Unelected, a series of election signs bearing the names of every major-party candidate who ever ran for President and lost. At a moment when the country has been deeply occupied with a major national election, Monument to the Unelected offers a reminder of the country’s collective political roads not taken. It's great to see our local art institutions collaborating to present art that engages with our times and encourages reflection on alternate histories and imagined futures.

We look forward to seeing you very soon, online or IRL, and sharing dreams together!

Warmest hugs,
