Watch Now: Cassie Thornton, "The Hologram"

The Hologram is a peer to peer health protocol practiced from couches around the world. Originally conceived as an artwork, this peer to peer care practice is now co-produced and used by thousands of people. In the protocol, three people meet with one person, the hologram, regularly over time, to focus on their physical, social and emotional health by asking questions and taking notes. In return, the hologram ensures that each of the three caregivers are cared for by three other people. The video consists of a simulation of the protocol performed by people who are a part of the large community of practitioners who use and organize The Hologram in their life, and it attempts to model the Hologram practice, and its presence and use both online and offline. At the end of the video, we can see the monthly online Community of Practice meetings, in which practitioners get together to hack, discuss, and plot revolutions using the Hologram protocol. The Hologram shows rather than tells that there is a way that all people who give care can and must receive care in order to produce a network of solidarity, stability and health that can help us survive the end of capitalism.
